There was the usual low-grade anxiousness in the past two weeks, which is typical for me in the lead-up to getting lab results, specifically, PSAnxiety.
Obviously one can't expect a positive result from a comment like: "But don't be anxious"! Surely, that's what I would feel, but I am not you; you are you and we have to be careful telling anyone how they should or shouldn't feel! When my late brother Daniel came home from Sloan Ketterig Mem. Hospital in June of 1984, with stage 4 Testicular Cancer, (we shared an apt. then), I said, "You know what to do" and after agreeing with me, "we" did it. SIx months later, after some major cancer, they asked Dan, "Dan, what have you been doing? You don't have any cancer in your body now." But the ONLY reason Dan and I were not anxious (seriously not anxious), back in June of '84 was because we were both "crazy" health nuts and believed in natural medicine. Dan DID very soon after his diagnosis, have a grapefruit sized tumor removed from his stomach and intestines, along with surgery to remove one of his testicles. (There's more on this topic in my memoir, on my website.) There is no question in my mind that some of the best surgeons in the world likely work at the SKMCC--for that, Daniel was very grateful. I was much into the politics of cancer, Daniel also was well up-to-date on the b.s. that goes on in both the "treatments" of cancer and the suppression of things--mostly cheap, non-patentable things--by both the SKMCC and othe similar centers, around the country.
I don't know you, but you seem like a very smart doctor! That being said, here's an interesting article re PSA tests. I'm sure you know they were NEVER intended to be used to mark prostate cancer, (so says the inventor of this test!). In any case, as you know, there is BIG money in "diagnostic" testing for everything, but that's an elephant of a topic, so I'll leave it at that:
Again, this semi-retired Nutritionist is not telling you what to do, but just trying to share perhaps a few useful thoughts on the subject of ANXIETY re health matters--ANY health matters.
Obviously, Daniel did no alcohol, soda, coffee, junk food, etc. So when Sloan Kettering asked Dan, about six months after his initial diagnosis, "Dan what have you been doing, you have no more cancer in your body?" He responded, just some vitamins and vegie juices. At NO TIME did the SKMCC ask Dan, "Can you print out all the therapies and tools you used to get better with stage four cancer, so quickly?" NOPE, in fact the very center that worked tirelessly to derail the BEST anti-cancer tool out there, namely laetrile, was THAT "famous" SKMCC!
(After many months, I can't remember exactly when, both my wheat grass juicer and my Acme juicer were 'toast,' buy we didn't care! Daniel was better and I simply went out and bought another juicer.)
Second super-beneficial intervention would have been IV vitamin C, which WAS used at the medical center where I used to work. (They routinely used 75 grams per day, IV on cancer patients, 2-3/week with other therapies, as necessary.)
This complementary medicine center was using IV laetrile and IV vitamin C since 1974! (I worked there only from 2007 to 2014.) The center only closed recently after about 50 years in operation!) The unbelieveable book that fully covered the suppression of super-beneficial anti-cancer therapies by the SKMCC was named "The Cancer Syndrome," and was written by Ralph Moss, Ph.D. In my opinion, it is a must read on this topic as are the few books written on "The Politics of Cancer." Moss has written other books I also recommend.
So the anxiety was absent for both Dan and I since we were already schooled in natural medicine and it is for THIS reason that we had the moods we did at that time. This is why I earlier said, that it is useless to tell someone how to feel. They have to KNOW that cancer is a signal that something is wrong with our bodies and obviously, it's time to reflect one what I might be doing "wrong" that should be changed. Daniel had already read "Cancer, Shadow in the Conquest of Nature," (I forget the author), a tremendous book and partly from reading this, Daniel knew EXACTLY WHY he had gotten cancer in the first place! (If the inability of stupid, provintial and very mean foster parents to handle a seriously gifted and genious child came to mind, you'd be correct! (I write about this in my memoir.)
Of course, Daniel's vitamin D SHOULD have been checked, BUT the link between low vitamin D and cancer was only found years later so, it's understandable that vitamin D levels were not checked. By the way, ALL patients where I was a Nutritionist for 7.5 years, were low in vitamin D! I call low below 30 ng/ml. Still, doctors are reticent to recommend vitamin D for anything these days, but some of them are catching up to the science.
Sadly, SKMCC DID give Daniel some Cisplatin, a common drug against testicular cancer, BUT they FORGOT to look at his chart, I believe! Daniel had been deaf in his left ear since birth and a drug that can damage the nerves in the Cochlea should not be given or must be monitored VERY carefully to avoid any over-dose situation!
Thus, even though Daniel had no more cancer, they gave him this drug and likely TOO MUCH, and it caused a CHRONIC ringing in his right ear! Now Daniel was the number one math student in America back in 1974 (SAT scores 800 math and near that for English), full scholarship at Case W. Reserve Un. in Cleveland, and now this. Daniel was a man that never watched tv but instead mostly studied and reads. He also played the piano often and basically lived a studious life. However, Daniel became disabled from the Cisplatin, and so after getting better from cancer, genious and all, he was UNABLE to work!
Only TWO things "got rid of" the ringing in Daniel's right ear. (By the way, this writer has managed three hearing aid stores and it would then be accurate to say he knows something about hearing!) The two things that made this awful ringing more managable were alcohol and Xanax! Imagine having an IQ near 200 BUT you can't focus on anything important since all you hear is that ringing! Dan didn't like Xanax, but sure did like Alcohol! It became Dan's drug of choice. (Having an alcoholic Dad sharing an apt. with Dan, briefly way back then, didn't help! Like brother Dan, this writer didn't drink back then.)
I mention this story just to illustrate a personal example of doing #$%!@ that can help you feel better or get better. I can't write too much detail here as it's both unprofessional and I think rude, but I hope my short story can motivate you a littlebe of some use to the readers out there.
Good luck in your quest for better health and do check out my six books on my website. However, some readers might want to avoid my two books on the Covid crisis; they could cause anxiety in many people, trying to improve their health. ("301 Questions on the Covid Crisis; Do YOU Know the Answers?" is only intended for those that have read my major book on this topic, still now just an e-book OR have been studying this issue in depth, since 2020.) And to pay nothing, please use free123 as your coupon code. [http://www.BeyondOK.net} "The Mainstream Media's Anti-Vitamin Agenda" is a lot of fun to read as is my book on Heart Disease (this book has been reviewed positively by a few doctors, but needs a publisher now.
Also, the letter to my dentist is a good read and so is "60 Reasons" on the Fluoridation question. Those 'in recovery' may find a benefit to reading my memoir.
Use code "free123" if you wish, but remember, I still would appreciate a review of ANY of the books you or any of your friends decide to download and read! And please, do NOT share any of my Covid books with "vaxxed" friends; it might get them upset (As for my plain-Jane website, I already know it is in need of much improvements. My web skills are almost zero. As for any videos, they will start after my Dental work is completed.) As for hard printed books, they're in the works for Spring-Time release but I do NOT have a publisher yet. Good luck to you and your friends reading this and thanks for reading my post!
Hi Tom. Thanks for your very interesting story and feedback. I juice (organic) three times a week and eat mostly organic plant based diet. I gave up alcohol when I was diagnosed. I take 10,000 IU of cholecalciferol daily which keeps my Vit D level in the 80s. There are a few other things I do but don't write about because they are so controversial🤓. I'll check out your website. Take care!
Sending good thoughts. It's time for my quarterly PSA test as well... I would love to know what a T level of 600 feels like. My last test was in the low 300s...
I read a study from Duke that showed that really high testosterone (I don't remember how high) can actually suppress the proliferation of PCa cells. It was just one study, and I know that conventional wisdom still advocates for ADT (which a good friend of mine is going through and the side effects are horrible). At my next blood draw, I'm having my estradiol and luteinizing hormone levels checked. I've always felt that my hormones were imbalanced; hopefully this will shed some light. Thanks for your writing - I appreciate you! Hugs.
Not so good about your PSA result. You’re an MD so I’m not going to give you the suck eggs treatment. But honestly the radical prostatectomy was the best thing for me about seven years ago. Seriously, I just beat it metastasising and I’ve never looked back.
I’m sure you have medical reasons for not taking this path already, but if it’s concerns with masculinity then there’s prosthetics for that (yep got that too) but ‘get it out’ if you can.
Hi Paul. I underwent a radical prostatectomy in 2018 followed by salvage radiation to my pelvis followed by proton therapy to my entire para-aortic lymphatic chains in 2023.
Ouch. I got off easy. I’d love to know more. I wonder if you’d be up for joining me as a Substack Live guest on Sessions From The Edge and we can compare notes.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Steve. You might be thinking of bipolar androgen therapy. I wrote a post about it here https://open.substack.com/pub/keithrholdenmd/p/bipolar-androgen-therapy-031
I lied, it wasn't Duke, it was MSK. A little different than BAT. https://www.urologytimes.com/view/testosterone-replacement-therapy-displays-long-term-safety-efficacy-post-radical-prostatectomy-men
Steve, I also wrote a post about that too. https://open.substack.com/pub/keithrholdenmd/p/testosterone-replacement-with-a-history
